  • Front is anterior, back is posterior

  • Anything close to the center of the body is medial (eg inner thigh), while farther from the center is lateral (eg outer thigh)

  • Beginning is proximal ( eg biceps of arm), end is distal ( eg hand of arm)

  • Up is superior, down is inferior
