Rehabilitation treatments for Chronic back pain
For long term improvement of pain and function that lasts beyond 1-2 years, the following is recommended over any injections or surgeries.
They work better when you are working or have routine activities you engage in.
They work better when you are motivated.
Avoid bed rest and try to get back to work or routine activities.
Exercise is the cornerstone of long term back pain treatment.
Pain education and cognitive behavioral therapy can be added if exercise alone is not helpful
Other- Spinal Manipulation or/and acupuncture can be added to the above, if felt to be helpful. But not helpful by themselves.
For the improvement in pain to last life long, a combined lifestyle approach is recommended- decreasing stress, improving sleep and diet, and increasing moving around, exercising
