Exercises For Chronic Back Pain - Type

More important than the type of exercise, is the one that you will actually do. We are going to suggest some exercises as part of an exercise plan. However, if other exercises such as yoga or tai chi work better for you, and you are more likely to do them, then please go ahead and do those.

The important thing is, that you are moving around and not remaining in one position, sitting or lying for long periods of time.

WALKING: If you cannot do an exercise, just walk. You can work up to it. If you can’t, just continue walking. It is good to try walking everyday regardless of other exercises you do. Try to increase the time you walk every week and progress to other exercise types.

A variety of exercise types is recommended: sports rehabilitation, physical activity as tolerated, aquatic exercises, walking, stretching, aerobic, strength training, endurance, core exercises, yoga, and tai-chi. However, again, if walking is all you can do, try to do it for as much of the day as possible.
